We aim to protect the environment and public health and improve the quality of life for the people of the Borough.

We:

Deal with complaints regarding public health matters and nuisances for example, dampness and pest infestations.

Investigate noise complaints from domestic, industrial and commercial premises.

Assess conditions in private rented sector housing and investigate complaints of harassment.

Assess planning applications.

Sample public and private water supplies.

Monitor air pollution.

Monitor radiation levels.

Endeavour to maintain the Borough litter free via educative and enforcement work programmes.

Deal with incidents of fly tipping and accumulations of waste considered prejudicial to health.

Advising communities on sustainable development and the implementation of Vision 2020.

Responsibility for the remaining pollution control functions rests with the Environment and Heritage Service, and includes pollution to waterways, emissions from large industrial processes and Waste Management Licensing. Environment and Heritage Service. Tel: (028) 9025 1477.

We are actively involved in partnership working amongst Departments, public bodies, local communities, voluntary bodies, district councils and social partners to improve the health of all our people and reduce health inequalities.
