Larne Borough Sports Awards 2009
Larne Borough Sports Forum played host to the 4th Larne Borough Sports Awards on Thursday 25 February 2009 and were delighted to welcome former Ulster and Ireland rugby player David Humprheys MBE to McNeill Theatre as their guest speaker. The aim of the event was to recognise and reward the sporting achievements of the people of the Borough of Larne during 2009 and the evening was hailed as a resounding success by 200+ crowd.
The evening began with a champagne drinks reception for all guests which included the opening of the Hall of Fame section within the Leisure Centre. LBSF were delighted to welcome inductees Trevor Ringland and Dave McAuley plus special guests including triple Olympain Maeve Kyle and her husband and top athletics coach Sean.
Guests were treated to a warm welcome from Awards Host, Claire McCollum, Mayor Bobby McKee MBE and Sports Forum Chairman Councillor Martin Wilson. A question and answer session with David Humphreys then followed with guests recieving insight into the life of an elite athlete and David's continued role in Ulster Rugby.
A 4 course meal proceeded the main event of the Presentation of the 9 Award Categories and a closing address of thanks to all involved from Mrs Geraldine McGahey, Chief Executive of Larne Borough Council.
