Environmental Management System

Larne Borough Council became the first NI Council to achieve ISO 14001 in 2007 and have continued to develop that high level of performance with a renewed focus on energy, water, transport, internal waste management, staff awareness and biodiversity.  The Council was re-accredited with ISO 14001 in April 2010.

Larne Council have also demonstrated leadership within the local government sector by becoming the first Council to achieve Platinum Status in the annual Arena Network Environmental Survey becoming the 12th company out of 250 companies surveyed annually across a range of sectors.

To achieve this level of performance Larne Council have mapped out the organisation's carbon footprint and introduced an annual environmental performance report, all which are published online, through local press and within the Council's annual Sustainable Magazine.

The Council in pursuing these agendas has not only improved environmental performance but delivered costs proving that environmental best practice makes economic sense.
