Environmental Management System
Council’s Corporate Environmental Management System (EMS) achieved certification to the international standard ISO14001 in April 2007. The standard ensures Council reduces its environmental impacts across all departments, complies with legislation and demonstrates continuous performance improvement. Employees are aware of their responsibility to the environment while at work and are encouraged to put new ideas and objectives forward. Council has significantly reduced its environmental impact by meeting 16 objectives since the system became operational in January 2007.
Council’s EMS recently received an award in Northern Ireland’s 10th Environmental Benchmarking Survey delivered by Arena Network. Larne were No. 1 in the Council grouping, having the best performing EMS.
