Larne Borough Sports Awards 2007
Larne Borough Sports Forum played host to the 2nd Larne Borough Sports Awards on Thursday 21 February 2008 and were delighted to welcome Dr Janet Gray MBE, four-time World Disabled Water-ski Champion to the McNeill Theatre as their guest speaker.
The aim of the event was to recognise and reward the sporting achievements of the people of the Borough of Larne during 2007 and the evening was hailed as a resounding success by all of the 150 guests in attendance.
The evening began with a champagne drinks reception for all guests followed by a warm welcome from Awards Host, UTV Sport’s Adrian Logan and Sports Forum Chairman Councillor Martin Wilson. After being treated to a four course meal the audience were invited to participate in a very informative question and answer session with Janet Gray. Throughout this lively session the current World Champion provided the guests with an extra special insight into her fascinating career including her gruelling daily training regime and the inspiration behind her astonishing recovery from the horrific training accident which threatened her life in 2004.
The evening concluded with the Presentation of the eight Award Categories and a closing address of thanks to all involved from Mrs Geraldine McGahey, Chief Executive of Larne Borough Council.

In response to a number of requests following last year’s event, the organisers, in partnership with the Larne Gazette were delighted to be presenting the Inaugural Hall of Fame Award at this year’s event; a category which recognised past sporting achievements by a local person at the very highest level. This year’s Awards produced a very worthy recipient.
