Carnlough Harbour Improvements

Larne Borough Council has received grant funding from the Irish Central Border Area Network (ICBAN) under the Interreg IIIA Programme to facilitate improvement works at Carnlough Harbour.

This funding has resulted in the installation of new navigation lights as part of a programme of refurbishment and upgrading of the harbour.

Future scheduled work to enhance the small port will include dredging, support of the quayside and the installation of safety railings.

The new “more environmentally friendly” navigation lights have made a big safety impact at the harbour and were deemed necessary due to the increased popularity of Carnlough as both a tourist attraction and a fishing village.

Carnlough at the foot of Glencloy offers an alternative harbour facility for yacht’s men from all over the globe.  It is the hope of Larne Borough Council that the strong seafaring traditions of the picturesque coastal village continue safely for many years to come.

“This project was part-financed by the European Union through the Interreg IIIA Programme managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by the DARD Fisheries Division and the Dept. of Marine, Communications and Natural Resources. The partners are Sligo and Donegal County Councils, Coleraine, Moyle and Larne District Councils”.
