Environment Education in Schools

Larne Borough Council employs a full time Environment Education Officer who is involved in a number of projects with local schools. There are annual competitions that schools take part in such as The Yellow Woods Challenge where schools collect old Yellow Pages directories and the public speaking competition, Environmental Youth Speak.

The internationally recognised Eco Schools programme is also taking off locally with several schools registering to participate assisted by Larne Borough Council.

The Environment Education Officer also visits schools to give lessons and workshops on subjects such as the 3 R’s, composting and other environmental topics. To help with the delivery of this programme a fully equipped education vehicle is available for school visits.

If you would like any further information please contact the Environment Education Officer, Barry Tapster on 028 2826 2307.
