Litter Control

We endeavour to help protect the environment and public health by way of education and enforcement programmes through our full-time Litter Warden.  The Litter Warden carries out foot and mobile patrols throughout the Borough to enforce the provisions of the Litter (Northern Ireland) Order 1994.  Using this legislation it is possible to issue fixed penalties or take more formal action on offenders who commit a range of litter offences, for example discarding waste from vehicles, allowing a dog to foul and failing to clean it up and dumping of waste.

If you are experiencing problems with litter, and either you know who is doing it or have witnessed an offence, we urge you to contact the Litter Warden at Smiley Buildings or by calling Environmental Health Service on 028 2827 2313.
