President Theodore Roosevelt Plaque

Location:  Maud's Ice Cream Factory, Gleno Village

During the period of Ulster-Scot emigration, many thousands of families sailed for America, among them members of the Irvine and Craig families of Carneal and the Gleno Valley. They are said to have been among the ancestors of Theodore Roosevelt, President of the United States between 1901-1909. Roosevelt, who was born in New York in 1858, also had a strong Dutch ancestry. He was to write in praise of the Ulster-Scots and the role which they played in the development of America. He succeeded another Ulster-Scot President, William McKinley, to the White House after Mckinley's assasination.
