Environmental Health

Our Service

Council's Environment Services Department aims to provide a comprehensive best value service, to maintain and improve the quality of the environment and to promote in all practical ways the health, and well-being of the people who live, work or visit the Borough.

The Environment Services Department offers a range of council services.

The Technical Services Department deals with refuse collection, recycling, street cleansing, public conveniences and building maintenance.

The Environmental Health Department is the enforcing authority for environmental health legislation relating to:

  Food Safety
  Health and Safety
  Consumer Protection
  Environmental Protection
  Public Health
  Licensing (Entertainment, Street Trading, Petroleum)
  Dog Control

We also have responsibilities for health promotion and home accident prevention. We provide information and advice to members of the public and businesses on environmental health issues and sample and monitor recreational waters.

Council has adopted and follows the principles of the Enforcement Concordat which lays down the principles of good enforcement policy and practice. The Concordat details what those regulated by Larne Borough Council can expect from us.

Enforcement Concordat

The Environmental Health Enforcement Policy sets out the principles and approach which the Department and its officers will follow in order to ensure consistent and open enforcement. This policy does not however apply to offences relating to food hygiene, food standards or dog control for which specific enforcement policies exist and may be viewed on the relevant sections of this web site.
